Bengals Experience and Transition Team Selection Process

Those selected to be a part of the B.E.A.T. Team will be hired for and participate in a years worth of activities that support and enhance the New Student and Family Programs office. There are three steps to applying to be a part of our Transition Team.

The application process typically takes place in October. Generally there is a progressive interview process before final offers are made to join the Bengal Experience and Transition Team B.E.A.T. Team Lead

The students selected will meet on a weekly basis to provide input to the office and guide the direction of the New Student Orientation. They will come up with ideas for evening events, plan the welcome program, work on B.E.A.T. Team scripts for group time, and more.

Team Leads must be available throughout the year for trainings, meetings, college functions including Open Houses, Orientation, Homecoming and Family Weekend, and more.

During Orientation these students will not have a group, rather, they will assist in the logistics of running Orientation. Team Leads will earn approximately $4,500 for the year.

Team Members

Team members serve as a resource to a diverse population of new students and parents attending orientation programs. Team members are responsible for a specific body of knowledge about Buffalo State acquired through their experiences as a student and through their training experiences. Additionally, they must be sincerely interested and skillful in sharing this knowledge with orientation participants.

Becoming a team member is both a unique honor and rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Recognized by the college administration and faculty for their worthy assistance, this team of leaders fulfills the mission of orientation through their strong commitment to aid the students and parents in their adjustments and transition to Buffalo State. As a vital member of this dynamic team, team members enjoy a memorable experience while providing a valuable service to the college.

Team members must be available throughout the year for trainings, meetings, college functions including Open Houses, Orientation, Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming and Family Weekend, and more.

Team members will earn approximately $3,500 for the year.

Parent Leads

The two students selected will meet on a bi-weekly basis to provide input to the office and guide the direction of the Family Orientation. They will research and recommend opportunities to communicate with family members prior to, during, and after orientation. Additionally, they will work on the Parent Newsletter, parent association, and resources available to students.

Parent Leads must be available throughout the year for trainings, meetings, college functions including Open Houses, Orientation, Homecoming and Family weekend, and more. During Orientation, these students will not have a group, rather, they will assist in running the Family Member Orientation.

This is an hourly role. The Parent Leads can expect to earn approximately $4000+

DJ

This position is a newly created role. The team member in this position must have previous DJ experience. This person will be a part of the Bengal Experience and Transition Team. They must be available throughout the year for trainings, meetings, college functions including Open Houses, Orientation, Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming and Family Weekend, and more.

During Orientation, their main role will be to provide music throughout the program including check-In/Check-Out, Pre-Welcome, Closing Ceremony, and more.

This is an hourly role. The DJ Team member can expect to earn approximately $4000+

Digital Marketing/Social Media (Must have previous experience working in a position doing these tasks)

This position is a newly created role. The team member in this position must have previous Digital Marketing/ Social Media experience. This person will be a part of the Bengal Experience and Transition Team. They must be available throughout the year for trainings, meetings, college functions including Open Houses, Orientation, Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming and Family Weekend, and more.

Prior to Orientation, the team members responsibility will be to enhance the offices social media presence, and create engagement with our incoming students. During Orientation, their main role will be to take pictures and provide a social media presence on our social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr.

This is an hourly role. The Digital Marketing/ Social Media Team members can expect to earn approximately $4000+

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Be in good academic standing; have a minimum 2.5 semester OR cumulative GPA at time of application;
  • Be in good disciplinary standing with Buffalo State and Residence Life;
  • Exhibit good interpersonal, leadership, and presentation skills;
  • Possess a professional attitude when dealing with faculty, staff, students, and their families;
  • Able to work during all of the designated dates and times;
  • Must be reliable, flexible, responsible, confident, and display a willingness to help.

Responsibilities

  • Be available during the following dates (subject to change)
    • Attend and actively participate in all training sessions. These will be every Friday evening from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm;
    • Fall Open House - Saturday, October 21, 2017;
    • NYC trips, one per semester, to meet with accepted students and their parents (Team Leads and Parent Orientation Leaders);
    • January Orientation week: TBD;
    • Spring Open House - TBD;
    • All Summer Orientation Sessions;
    • Homecoming and Family Weekend: Dates TBD;
  • Enthusiastically welcome new students and family members to Buffalo State;
  • Develop a professional rapport with new students;
  • Be accessible and willing to assist with any information needs of students and parents;
  • Be willing to volunteer during evening events at Orientation;
  • Prepare and conduct well-organized and thorough small group meetings for new students;
  • Efficiently complete all logistical tasks to ensure the orientation program proceeds smoothly and effectively;
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors;
  • Take initiative with unanticipated tasks or problems;
  • Lift, carry, move, and prepare supplies and materials;
  • Maintain a positive attitude;
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Things To Know

  • Team Members and Team Leads will be committed to working all of the dates for training and the January, July, and August Orientation Sessions;
  • Must be available to work all dates with no conflicts in schedule, accommodations will not be made for other campus activities or jobs.
